EnVeritas Group Team Lends Hand at Generous Garden Project
Greenville, SC – On September 6, EnVeritas Group visited The Generous Garden Project, a non-profit organization whose mission is “fighting hunger by growing, harvesting and delivering fresh grown produce to agencies in Greenville, SC.” The garden is located on Verdin Road, between Woodruff Road and East Butler, in the Mauldin area.
The garden features a wide variety of vegetables. Current crops include kale, carrots, zucchini, basil, Swiss chard and spinach. There is also a large chicken pen adjoining a mud hut which helps the birds stay cool. Anthony Jones, the Farm Manager for Generous Garden, gave tours of the property to volunteers and visitors. He also worked on making new beds with a soil digging device which he designed and built himself.
One challenge the garden currently faces is removing all of its structures due to zoning issues with the City of Mauldin. Work has begun on this task, and the building materials will be reused for future structures, possibly at a different location. EVG volunteers contributed by helping with deconstruction, as well as removing weeds from garden beds and collecting worm castings for soil enrichment.
